Arbejderhøjskole - Sømandsskole - Vandrehjem.

Fra sømandsskole til
vandrehjem. |

To be a sailor, you had to join the semannschool. In the end of august did i pack my new seabag, and board the train for Esbjerg to start a 3 month long stay, it was the first time I was so far away, and so long time from home. On the school, should we learn the most important thing, about being a seamann, swimming, cleaning (our self and the ships) splice in rope and wire, the 20. most used knots, roving, how to sail a boat whit sail and a lot of other things you have more or less use for I your future life at sea. On the school, there were a very though discipline, and the food were very “poor”, so we learned to eat bread only whit lard, because the meat to put on top was very fast eaten, and kids in that age are eating a lot, we had to work very hard, and we were always hungry.

Today “Esbjerg Sømandsskole” is a Youth hostel but the building are still alike. |
